National Minimum Wage Council issues a statement on the results of the minimum wage discussion

The National Minimum Wage Council of the third mandate on August 16, 2023, held a discussion on the minimum wage for workers in the textile, garment, footwear and travel products and bags for 2024.


The discussion was chaired by Dr Ith Samheng, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training at the Ministry of Labour, but the three parties, the government, unions and employers have not yet released figures.


The meeting achieved the following results:


1. Officially announced the composition of the members and the Vice President of the National Council for the Minimum Wage for the third mandate: Kim Chansamnang is the Deputy Chief Representative of the Workers ‘Professional Organization, and Nang Sothy is the Deputy Chief Representative of the Employers’ Professional Organization.


2. Presented the key statistics of the seven social and economic criteria for stakeholders as a basis for negotiating the minimum wage for 2024.



3. Hear the positions of the representatives of each party on the change in social and economic criteria. However, the employers ‘representatives and the workers’ representatives have not yet been able to confirm their official position figures, requesting more of their internal meetings.


4. The National Minimum Wage Council of the third mandate will hold its next meeting on the morning of August 28, September 4, 11, 18, 25, and October 2, 2023.


In 2023, the minimum wage for workers in the textile, garment, footwear, and travel products and bags sectors will be $200 per month, plus additional benefits. Each worker can receive between $217 and $228 per month. Fresh News
